A lot of corps members focus all their energy on surviving camp and forget that the real challenge comes afterward, keeping up with monthly clearance for an entire year.

Most clearance problems do not happen because people intentionally skip it. They happen because someone travels without permission, misses a deadline, assumes their attendance record will be automatically updated like it was when they were in the camp when it was not once you are outside.

What is NYSC Monthly Clearance?

The NYSC monthly clearance is the process NYSC uses to confirm that you are still actively serving at your Place of Primary Assignment (PPA). It is how the system separates corps members who are genuinely showing up from those who have absconded. 

Think of it as your monthly proof of life as a corps member. No clearance, no allowance for that month. Skip three months of them, and that is automatically service extension.

Where Does NYSC Monthly Clearance Take Place?

The NYSC monthly clearance happens at your Local Government Area secretariat, specifically the one covering the area where your PPA is located. It is not done online and it is not done at your PPA. You have to show up in person at the LGA office on the date your LGI assigns.

When is the NYSC Monthly Clearance?

NYSC monthly clearance takes place from the 1st to the 10th of each month. Some LGAs with a large number of corps members split clearance across different days or specific time slots to avoid overcrowding. 

Your CDS group or LGI will usually communicate the exact schedule, so do not assume every corps member in your area clears on the same day at the same time. Confirm your specific slot ahead of time rather than just showing up and hoping it lines up.

NYSC Monthly Clearance Requirements at the LGA

NYSC Final Clearance Process

The NYSC final clearance is the bigger, more detailed version of what you have been doing every month, except this time it determines whether you actually get to POP. Here is the full process:

1. Get your final clearance letter from your PPA

This confirms you served diligently throughout the year and that your employer is officially releasing you.

2. Fill out NYSC Forms 2A, 2B, and 2C

These cover your orientation assessment, your quarterly PPA assessment, and your CDS assessment. All three need to be properly completed and signed.

3. Clear all CDS dues

Your CDS president or coordinator needs to confirm you have settled any dues, levies, your foundation form, and your magazine contribution before signing off.

Notice the line about returned property and no outstanding disputes. That detail matters more than people realize. A PPA can genuinely withhold your final clearance signature if you still have a laptop, an ID badge, or any other company property in your possession. Settle that before you ask for this letter.

What is the NYSC Passing Out?

NYSC passing out, commonly called POP, is the final ceremony that officially ends your one year of national service. It is the day you hand in your NYSC ID card and receive your Certificate of National Service in return.
